We aim to cultivate students that think clearly and listen carefully with discernment and understanding; that reason persuasively and articulate precisely; that are capable of evaluating their entire range of experience in the light of the Scriptures; and that do so with eagerness in joyful submission to God. We desire them to recognize cultural influences as distinct from biblical, and to be unswayed towards evil by the former. We aim to find them well-prepared in all situations, possessing both information and the knowledge so how to use it. We desire that they be socially graceful and spiritually gracious; equipped with understanding the tools of learning; growing in understanding, yet fully realizing the limitations and foolishness of the wisdom of this world. We desire they have a heart for the lost and the courage to seek to dissuade those who are stumbling towards destruction; that they distinguish real religion from religion in form only; and that they possess the former, knowing and loving the Lord Jesus Christ. We desire them to possess all of these qualities with humility and gratitude to God.
We aim to cultivate these same qualities in our staff and to see them will paid so that they may make a career at Veritas. We desire them to be professional and diligent in their work, gifted in teaching, loving their student and their subjects. We desire they clearly understand classical education, how it works in their classroom and how their work fits into the whole; they they possess a lifelong hunger to learn and grow; and that they have opportunity to be refreshed and renewed. We desire to see them coach and nurture new staff and to serve as academic mentors to students. We look to see them mature in Christ, growing in the knowledge of God, their own children walking with the Lord.
We aim to cultivate in the parents of our student a sense of responsibility for the school; to see them will informed about the goals of our classical and Christ-centered approach. We desire them to grow with the school, involved in and excited about the journey. We aim to help them to follow biblical principles in addressing concerns, to be inclined to hearing both sides of a story before rendering a verdict, and embrace the Scripture's injunctions to encourage and stir up one another to love and good works.
Finally, in our relationship with our community, we aim to be above reproach in our business dealings and supportive of the local business community. We further seek to exemplify the unity of the body of Christ, to develop greater fellowship and understanding with the churches, and to bring honor to our Lord in all our endeavors.
Accordingly, the core doctrines that we teach regarding God and his Word are laid out in the following Statement of Faith.
Our Statement of Faith
The Bible
The Bible is God's Word. It was written by men divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit and, therefore, has God as its author. It is the supreme source of truth for faith and life. Because it is inspired by God, it is the inerrant Word of God.
God
God is the Creator and sovereign Ruler of the universe. He is all-powerful and all-knowing. All things were created by Him and for His glory. He has eternally existed in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal, co-eternal, and are one God.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is both fully God and fully man. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin by dying on a cross. He arose bodily from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven and will physically return again some day to judge the world and proclaim his Lordship over all creation.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to convict people of sin and draw them to Jesus Christ. He also dwells within every Christian from the moment of conversion, providing believers with power fro living, understanding of truth and guidance in righteousness.
Human Beings
People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character and reflect His glory. All are born with a sinful nature that defaces but does not destroy the image of God. Sin is rebellion against God and a refusal to glorify Him as God. The sinful nature separates people from God and places them under condemnation.
Salvation
Salvation is God's free gift to all those who believe in Jesus Christ and repent of their sin. Man can never earn salvation or eternal life through self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Christ's death as the payment for sins and turning from sin to Christ can anyone be saved from God's wrath. When we trust in Christ alone for our salvation we are justified through faith alone by God's grace alone. All those who have been justified are in the process of being sanctified.
Heaven and Hell
People are created to exist forever and will either exist eternally separated from God by sin and under His wrath, or eternally with God on account of His grace. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.
The Return of Christ
Christ will return visibly and bodily one day, though that day is known by no man. He will judge the world and gather His people together, being exalted as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Education
We believe that the goal of all education should be the exaltation of God in Christ. All education should be Christ-centered and Bible-saturated. All knowledge should be brought to the measuring standard of Scripture. The work of education is no simply to impart knowledge, but to form a biblical worldview.
Educating Children
The education of children is primarily the responsibly of parents. It is the church's duty and joy to equip parents to teach and train their children. In addition, God calls certain people to the ministry of teaching, including pastors/elders and other members of the body of Christ. These teachers are to do all they can to infuse a biblical, Christ-centered worldview into others. We believe that the most effective means of achieving this end in the lives of children is through classical education. Thus, we aim at Christ-centered and classical education.
